Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026
Tells ("we", "us") makes the Tells app for iPhone and this website. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we only collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and there are no ads or cross-app tracking.
What we collect
- Account. When you continue with Apple, we receive a private Apple identifier, and the name and email address Apple chooses to share. If you hide your email, we only see Apple's private relay address.
- Profile. Your name, username, age range and, if you add one, your profile photo.
- Activity in the app. The stories you finish, the options you pick in them, your onboarding answers, your Social IQ, your streak and the days you were active, your missions and the posts you save.
- Purchases. Whether you have an active subscription or trial. Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card or payment details.
- Settings on your device. Reminder times stay on your iPhone, and reminders are scheduled there. They are not sent to us.
We do not collect your contacts, precise location, photos library (beyond a photo you choose), or advertising identifiers. This website uses no cookies and no analytics.
How we use it
- To run your account and keep your progress in sync across sessions and devices.
- To calculate your Social IQ, streak and missions, and to personalize what you see.
- To provide and confirm your subscription.
- To keep the service secure and to answer you when you contact us.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who helps us
We use a small number of trusted providers who process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase for sign-in, our database and profile photo storage.
- RevenueCat to manage subscriptions.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple, payments and app distribution.
- Cloudflare to host this website.
Your information may be processed in countries other than yours, including the United States and Canada, with appropriate safeguards in place.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, photo, progress, missions and saved posts are deleted from our systems. Apple and RevenueCat may keep purchase records as required by law.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account anytime in the app: Profile, Settings, Delete account.
- Edit your name, username and photo in the app.
- Turn reminders off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected].
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, PIPEDA or the CCPA), you may have additional rights, including to object to or restrict certain processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. We will respond to requests within 30 days.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and our database only lets each person access their own records. Scores are calculated on our servers. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Tells is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
